Women Offering Mentoring, Education, and Networking in Advanced Therapies

The cell and gene industry has a skills gap across all levels right up to the senior management positions. Companies struggle to recruit, retain, develop and promote employees for our rapidly growing and maturing industry.

Balance at all career levels is necessary if companies want to access untapped market space and retain their top talent and competitive advantage.
The goal of W.O.M.E.N in advanced therapies is to build the foundations for a community to help recruit, retain, develop and promote women, creating leaders of tomorrow and encouraging new women to join the sector.

The aim of this lunch and learn is to inspire women through the diverse career paths available in the cell and gene therapy industry, create new contacts formally through our mentorship program as well as informally through the networking lunch.

In addition to the lunch and presentation, there will be a structured networking task that will ensure each attendee leaves with at least two good connections.

Each of the panellists has agreed to provide mentorship to one individual for six months. In practical terms they will be responsible for:
  • One hour per month of 1:1 contact (skype, call, in person, depending on preference)
  • One W.O.M.E.N mentorship working group call every 2 months - this is a call with a coordinator and the other mentors to ensure that the program is running successfully and to provide recommendations for improvements in real-time
During the panel - each panellist will provide a brief overview of what they can offer to potential mentees and will voice 2-3 things they think make a good mentor/mentee experience. Attendees will then have the opportunity to complete a short form detailing what they would like from the mentorship program, which will be submitted at the end of the session. Four will be chosen and matched with mentors - with the first mentorship session starting in March, and the final session taking place in October. Submitting this form or agreeing to join the panel signifies an agreement to the rules of engagement below.

Rules
  • Both parties agree to one hour per month of 1:1 contact for six months (this can be online via skype, FaceTime, etc or on the telephone or in person)
  • Both parties agree within the first session to outline and goal and objectives for the six months of mentorship, that will be submitted to michael@phacilitate.co.uk and which will be reviewed and updated every other session
  • Should a mentor or mentee miss a meeting without a valid reason or communication, this can be logged with michael@phacilitate.co.uk. Failure to attend two consecutive sessions may mean that your mentor or mentee is reallocated
  • Both parties are entitled to a reasonable degree of privacy and confidentiality, information shared outside of direct 1:1 communication should be cleared by both parties before being shared externally
  • Both parties agree to provide a testimonial/short write-up about their experience of the mentorship program. This should be submitted to michael@phaciliatte.co.uk by 1st November 2020
